At the inception meeting, parents were clamouring outside the packed out meeting room in order to hear the news of the WSDP being shared inside. It seems that both teachers and parents are ready for a change. When Wellspring staff arrived at Kabuga to observe teachers for baseline assessments, they found a classroom full of students who had been locked inside by their teacher!
The teacher had been gone for at least 30 minutes, but had locked the students in to make sure they wouldn’t get into trouble. In another observation, a large stick was slammed down on the desk inches in front of the student’s faces in order to get their attention. Apparently the teaching style of the 32 teachers will require a tremendous amount of attention and training, but Wellspring trainers are ready for the challenge and the 1,961 students will have a much friendly learning environment at the end of it all.
