Ecole Primaire de Cyahafi

15 teachers and 800 students proudly call Cyahafi their school. The pristine conditions of Cyahafi were amazingly refreshing.  The school is only three years old, but it is obvious that the administration, teachers, and students take incredible pride in caring for their school.  The classrooms are bright with fresh paint, clean windows, and new desks.

Although the class size is still 65 students/1 teacher, the classrooms are outfitted with enough desks that there are only 2-3 students to a bench.  It is obvious that the location of the school was not thought out very well, as it was built practically right on top of another school.  The school is one long, double story building, which helps to save space, but there is only a small, bare area for the students to play outside.

The teachers at Cyahafi work very hard, teaching two classes each day, and yet the joy and enthusiasm the teachers emit is contagious.  Upon our arrival for the inception meeting of the WSDP, the school put on a whole presentation in their courtyard. Each class sang about putting an end to genocide ideologies as well as fighting against AIDS.  They know they are the next generation of Rwanda and they are already eager to see a better Rwanda.
