The years following the genocide have seen a return of relative political, social, and economic security to Rwanda despite massive humanitarian needs for repatriation of refugees, justice and reconciliation, and rebuilding infrastructure.
In a country with so many significant barriers to development, the government has responded by putting some forward-thinking policies in place to encourage initiatives that will help them to address these needs. In recent documents like the Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper and Vision 20/20, the government of Rwanda has acknowledged the acute need for developing its people as the primary means to improve the quality of life within the nation. The government of Rwanda has also been actively seeking the assistance of others to come alongside them in rebuilding the nation.
While the Rwandan government continues to search for ways to address the basic needs of its people, it also has a bold plan to reinvent the small country as a regional service provider and hub for information and communications technology in Central and Eastern Africa. They have appealed to the local church and international organizations to assist in addressing the tremendous need for providing education to over 3.3 million children under the age of 14 throughout the country.
Wellspring was formed in response to the great need for quality education in Rwanda, and the invitation to be part of shaping the future of a nation. There has never been such a great opportunity to impact this entire country with the love of God. Wellspring will be involved in raising up a generation of Rwandan leaders who will find solutions to their own country's problems.
That is the future of Rwanda.
