| David, a passionate and joyful man |
|
He was born in Uganda as a refugee and moved a lot–both of his parents were in the military. When David was 12, he and his older brother were forced to join the army as child soldiers. After four years of service, David was released from the army, having lost his father and older brother in the war. At 16, David went back to primary school and quickly moved on to secondary. While other ex-child soldiers struggled to concentrate in school, David was very focused because he knew that he didn’t ever want to go back to the army. In 1995 David came to a disorganized and traumatized Rwanda to study at college. While studying, he also got a job as a teacher and continued teaching until 2001. Then he was accepted to study at the Kigali Institute of Science and Technology where he got his BA. During this time, David came into contact with Wellspring at our very first teacher training in 2004. Even though he loved teaching, he tried different jobs in travel and media after graduating. Eventually, he realized that his heart was still with education and when the opportunity came up to join Wellspring’s team of trainers in 2008, he took it. David fondly remembers a teacher who inspired his love for teaching. “He demonstrated the importance of a teacher to influence lives. A teacher is someone who has the ability to mold and transform others.” That hope is where David finds his passion. |
