| Raising the roof |
|
The sounds of construction are once again floating through the air at Wellspring! It is so wonderful to see the 2nd Secondary School classroom block finally heading towards completion. The shell of the building has been sitting roofless since November of last year when we simply ran out of money to keep the construction going. Some dear people from Vernon and Kelowna, B.C. became inspired when they visited Rwanda in February and headed back home to “raise the roof!” And raise the roof they did. In fact, they did even more than that. They raised almost enough money to completely finish the building. Work was finally able to get underway starting last week. We called back most of our old construction crew who were quite excited to get some work. Several of them have been unable to find work and have been having a very difficult time getting by. They were so thankful to have the prospect of some money coming in to pay rent and feed their families.
Within a few days, the guys had the roof on and have now started framing in the ceilings and plastering the walls. We will soon be able to use the building for our teacher training program. It will serve as our kitchen and training room until it is needed as part of the Secondary School in January 2011.

We have been so encouraged to see progress pick up again and want to say a big “thank you” to those of you who made it possible! We still have to raise money to build three more classroom blocks, an administration building, and a toilet block to be on schedule for the Secondary School to open. Check out the donation page to find out how you can get involved! |
