Andrea Nana Kamikazi

"I love school," Andrea pronounced emphatically!  This statement indicates the incredible change that has taken place in Andrea this past year.  Her mother describedhow she used to dread going to school and would even pretend she was sick.  Now her mom tells me they cannot get going fast enough in the morning because, "we can't be late for school!" is Andrea's daily worry.

Andrea with a friendAndrea is a beautiful, bright, and bouncy 7 year old who is in the Primary 1 class at Wellspring Academy.  She is the youngest in a family of 8 children and yet she is the only child in the family who will have the opportunity to attend at this school.  Her parents are both thrilled to see how Andrea has grown to love school and developed an excitement for learning.  Although it was difficult for Andrea to pick her favourite subject in school, she finally decided that it had to be English.  She does not often speak English at home since Kinyarwanda is her family’s primary language, so Andrea loves to practice her English at school.  PE was a close second in her list of favourite subjects because, like any energetic first grader, she always looks forward to a great run around.Andrea excited for schoolWatching Andrea in class, it is obvious that her love for school has translated into eager participation, dedicated studying, and a readiness to work hard.  She appeared to be a human sponge as her eyes stayed glued to the teacher with intense interest.  The admiration she has for her teacher is also quite evident.  “My teacher loves me and cares about me and teaches me so many things,” was the first thing Andrea answered when asked what she likes about school.  The pure and innocent joy on Andrea’s face truly says it all.
